Maude is 26 x 22 minute episodes of folk-comedy-horror. It digs deep into the myths and folklore of the British Isles and finds the hilarious lurking within.
A typical episode sees Maude and her gang of misfit friends experiencing the trials and tribulations of growing up while discovering bizarre entities from legend and sometimes deciding that they’re not all bad. All the while the mystery of Dampsgate and why it seems to be getting weirder deepens…
In terms of structure think Gravity Falls: a character’s personal dilemma is mirrored by their experiences with the fantastic: Dipper wants to be bigger and discovers a shrink ray, wants to be older and finds ghosts that hate teenagers, Mabel has a summer crush on what turns out to be a merman, etc.
It’s also about a very special stage in life: when the adult world seems weirder than ever, and you are expected to join it and find a place in it with all of its weird rituals and expectations. Sometimes the bizarre creatures of legend are less weird than the world of grown-ups.
